SWV Multi-Day Project, Sword Lake

SWV has logged another successful multi-day project this season! The team was composed of Craig Fish (Project Lead), Dave Moser, Joe Cavaness, Linda Hawley, Jeff Hawley, Sydni Albrecht (USFS), Devon Pennington (USFS) and a new member, Adlai Leiby.

This team, over the course of 3 days cut at two locations (Sword Lake trail and Wheats Meadow Trail, removed approximately 60 trees blocking trail. The team managed to cut and remove a number of very large logs by use of a ratchet puller and physics of levers, fulcrums and rails. Additionally, the team brushed a lot of invasive whitethorn enabling a clearer trail. Many hikers reported 65 trees down on Sword Lake trail and difficult navigation due to the overgrowth on the trail.

The team worked well together. Craig Fish, in addition to being the project lead was also head chef preparing dinners including a lovely chicken curry and the killer breakfast pancakes with strawberries and blueberries — supplemented with a nice strawberry/blueberry compote put together by Joe Cavaness. Dave Moser supplied tables and chairs to provide a pleasant environment for cooking and eating. The weather was ideal for the event and we were treated to a full moon and blue moon as well!

Lumber Yard! 9 trees in this photo were cut and rolled in addition to brushing a lot of whitethorn.

No shortage of things to do. Two of the 20+ trees cut with hand sawing on this day.
