SWV Project Day

Hello!Stanislaus Wilderness Volunteers (SWV) has planned two events for Saturday, August 12th:

1. Project Work Day – Clearing trees on the Bell Meadows trail. This is all outside of wilderness so will be chain saw work. Need volunteers to assist with trail clearing and cleanup. Meet at 9 am Summit Ranger Station at 1 Pinecrest Rd, Pinecrest. Be prepared with water, lunch, long pants and shirt, gloves and sturdy boots. The level of bugs is unknown but be prepared with your choice of repellent as well as sunscreen. If we finish early, we may go up to Gianelli trail head to remove a large hazard tree on that trail.

2. LNT Education – Chris Larimer or his proxy will be leading a LNT session at the Summit Ranger Station on the same day. The SWV LNT event would take place at Summit Ranger Station on Hwy 108 near Pinecrest Lake. Starting time is about 8:15am; ending time, about 3pm.We are open to half-day shifts it that works better for you…

Our objective is to reduce impact to the wilderness by encouraging responsible ‘Leave No Trace’ practices.

Outline for a SWV LNT event:

  • Determine what information the visitor may need & provide a Wilderness Permit.
  • Emphasize ‘pack it in, pack it out’, appropriate camping distances from trails & water sources, proper personal waste disposal, minimal campfire impact & secure food storage.
  • If convenient, hand out LNT information & discuss outdoor ethics further.
  • Invite likely prospects to join SWV.

If you can work this event, please let Chris know at either chrismlx or calling at 209 529-0862.
