SWV is having their season opener this coming Saturday, April 25 from 10am to 3 pm at the MiWuk Ranger Station conference area.
For this meeting, we will be discussing:
· What’s new in terms of logistics
· Updates from the US Forest Service (staffing, projects, conditions, reporting, etc.)
· Opportunities to directly assist the Forest Service for LNT, visitor contacts, assisting in the permit process and providing information to hikers and backpackers as they prepare to embark on their journey
· Project dates for single and multi-day projects
· Sierra Club Multi-day project at Rock Lake
· Sawyer certifications for crosscut and chainsaw – dates and signups
· Changes to equipment management
· Updates on safety procedures and equipment
· Updates on project team communications
· Workshops on LNT, Tool Safety and “How to Save Your Back” on trail clearing projects

From Sonora and points west:
· Highway 108 East to MiWuk. Proceed through MiWuk to Sierra Park Road (leads to the library)
· Easy Left on Chief Fuller Way (this is approximately 200 ft from the turn off Highway 108)
· Immediate left through the gate to the USFS Building on the left. Plenty of parking.
· If you end up at the USFS main Ranger Station, you missed the turnoff to Sierra Park Road. Do not park at the Ranger Station.
If you are planning on joining any teams this summer, you are strongly encouraged to attend to understand what’s different from the previous season. And we are interested in knowing what various members are interested in doing this season. The Forest Service is changing their model of how volunteers interact and interface with the volunteer organizations. SWV has the opportunity to participate in activities beyond what we have historically done – clearing trail, campsite cleanup, trash removal, trail maintenance. We will be discussing those additional activities at the season opener.
