For all SWV and interested persons wishing to learn new skills relative to wilderness stewardship. This is a 5 day event (including travel on both ends of the event) to be held on the 395 side of the Inyo National Forest. This should be an excellent event.

Now Accepting Applications for the 2024 California Interagency Wilderness Ranger Academy (until May 1)!
The application period for the 2024 California Interagency Wilderness Ranger Academy is now open!
Who (Target Audience): Field level wilderness staff including rangers, partners, and volunteers. All levels of experience are welcome!
Why: The Academy will provide participants a “toolbox” of professional wilderness management skills and includes opportunities to hear engaging speakers, learn new skills, practice wilderness visitor contacts and LNT techniques, receive certifications and network with peers from around California! This year’s classes include crosscut saw, wilderness first aid, leave no trace, backcountry navigation, basic horsemanship, and wilderness trail maintenance.

The website will accept applications through May 1st. YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENROLLMENT. Unfortunately, space is limited — to ensure equitable geographic participation in Wilderness Ranger Academy, we will review applications and will notify you of enrollment status by May 10th. If you are selected to attend, you will be provided a logistics packet with more information about the event.
Cost: There is no tuition fee for agency employees, partners and volunteers and free camping will be available to attendees
