Hello SWV Members, Our Highland Lakes work project is upon us soon on August 14-16. This multi-day project will be full days on Friday and Saturday with a possible half day on Sunday morning. We’ll meet at 9 am on Friday at the Highland Lakes campground. I plan to arrive Thursday night. I’ll leave a note on the board guiding you to the campsite. I’m trying to get an upper site with more shade. Evan said that the host will provide 2 sites for us. Our work focus has shifted to installing 3 sign boards and crosscut sawing mostly large trees 14-28” on the Milk Creek Meadow trail that we began working on 2 years ago. Evan counted a total of 35! Evan is bringing tools for the sign installation and cross cut sawing and can also provide some seasonal workers for the Friday sign installation project. We hope to get all 3 done in one day. We need more sawyers with saws at least 4-5’. Evan will have at least one or two. There may be slight delays on Highway 4 for construction because they’ll reduce the lanes to one in the section that is being worked on. Evan doesn’t think this will be an issue. Highland Lake road is no better than it was two years ago. It’s best if you have a 4×4 with high clearance but regular cars seem to make it up there too. Drive strategically between the ruts. These are current road conditions from Evan. Please bring gloves, day pack, water, your own food and cooking set up, hard hat if you have one( I have 5 to loan) and personal tools if you like (cross cut saw, ax, etc ).
