The first of the season’s Leave No Trace event is approaching quickly. We will be at the Sugar Pine (formerly Summit) USFS station Saturday, August 22, 9-3. Goal is to assist the USFS in LNT education of backcountry visitors. We expect this to be a warm-up for the very busy Labor Day weekend LNT days. We will have examples on how to store food in the backcountry (canisters, counter balance), permissible distance from water for camping, and other LNT principles. Hello SWV Members, Our Highland Lakes work project is upon us soon on August 14-16. This multi-day project will be full days on Friday and Saturday with a possible half day on Sunday morning. We’ll meet at 9 am on Friday at the Highland Lakes campground. I plan to arrive Thursday night. I’ll leave a note on the board guiding you to the campsite. Hello Members, I would like to thank Charlie, Ryan, George, Carl, Ron and our two newest members Yvette and Greg for their outstanding work on July 8th. Together we removed 13 trees between Camp and Bear Lakes, cleaned 4 fire pits, removed one near Camp and finished brushing the trail all the way to Bear Lake. Along the way, we encountered several backpackers and day hikers that all graciously thanked us for our work. The public appreciates the work of volunteers and forest service employees.
