Tuolumne County Volunteer Fair April 4th, 4-7PM Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora

The weather is changing so perhaps spring is on the horizon. Stanislaus Wilderness Volunteers (SWV) are planning our upcoming season for projects. One of the elements of that planning is resources – volunteers who care for wilderness and keeping things wild. To that end, Tuolumne County is hosting a volunteer fair on Thursday, April 4th. Eagle Pass Trail Clearing

Good evening (evening as I write this)Today was a pristine fall day in the Sierra’s. Crisp, clear, windless. There had been a dusting of snow two days earlier, leaving its white traces in the shadowed places adding a dimension of color to the fading fall colors. The team — Craig Fish, Dave Salzer, Dick Chimenti and Paul Wagner and myself set out to take out 3, potentially 4 trees. It turned out there were 9 trees that needed attention. SWV Project Day Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023

Stanislaus Wilderness Volunteers will be hosting another trail clearing on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023.The project will consist of tree removal from the Sword Lake trail in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness. Recent reconnaissance indicates 8-10 trees outside of wilderness with another 25-30 inside wilderness. The team will meet at Summit Ranger Station, 1 Pinecrest Road, Pinecrest CA at 8:30 am to gather equipment and do the safety briefing. Participants are advised to wear long sleeve shirts, long pants, sturdy boots and have appropriate PPE (gloves, eye/hearing protection, hard hat).
